Glass Fusing Garden Mushrooms - afternoon workshop"The course was really interesting and would recommend to others ." - Sue Make a pair of colourful fused glass mushrooms on this fun afternoon workshop On this workshop you'll create two fused glass garden mushrooms like the ones we sell in the gallery. You'll also gain an insight in to some of the basics of glass fusing - a gentle introduction to a craft many of our students have gone on to enjoy developing in their own home. You'll learn how to cut circles in glass, which you'll then decorate with coloured crushed glass (known as frit) before placing in the kiln. Each mushroom will need two firings - the first to fuse together two layers, melting your coloured frit inside, and the second drape over a mould to create the mushroom shape. We'll then use the 'frit slurry' method to decorate these mushrooms - a fun and loose way to add colour to fused glass. And you'll have the option to manipulate your frits a little like tie-dyeing for a very groovy, loose effect! When your mushrooms (which Jenny prefers to call 'toadstools'!) have been fired twice we'll attach the copper pipe to the inside; the weatherproof resin we use can take a few days to set fully so your mushrooms will be ready to collect around 7-10 days after the class. Once finished your toadstools or mushrooms can be planted outside - but it's probably a good idea to bring them in during the coldest parts of the year. The course cost of £85 inc VAT per person includes:
