Beginners Stained Glass -
Foiling (aka. Tiffany) - Taster Session
Learn the basics of foiling stained glass in just half a day!

"Another fabulour opportunity to learn new skills and techniques from the VERY knowledgeable Mike & Jenny "- Sue H

This basic half-day taster workshop will give you a feel for the copper foiling method of stained glass; if you enjoy this class we suggest you consider a full one-day workshop to gain deeper skills and make a more challenging piece.

Half-day copper foiling stained glass beginners class for up to 6 people - 3d Flower (in pot) or Butterfly Suncatcher or Plant Stake or Cactus or Christmas Tree or Star

We start out by learning some basic glass cutting techniques using the same tools we use ourselves. You'll then cut the coloured glass for your piece and move on to grinding the edges smooth. Once ready, you'll apply the coppper foil, and solder the pieces together.

For October, November and December we offer a choice of Chritmas themed pprojects included a 3d Tree or multi-layered star - all in your choice of colours/

If you choose to make a flower we'll teach you how to solder the petals and centre together, and how to attach the flower to its stem; you should have time to add a leaf and then 'plant' your flower in the pot we provide! The cactus pproject is constructed in a similar style.

If you choose to make a butterfly you'll solder the wings together and then solder wire antennae on; the final stage is to attach the butterfly to a copper stake or add legs for a freestanding piece, or wire loops to hang from fishing line.

At each stage we'll show you the tools, materials and skills you'll need to complete your butterfly project.

  • Scoring and breaking glass, using oil-cutter, grozing pliers and cut runner
  • Preparing the glass for soldering using the grinder, copper foil and crimping tool
  • Soldering using a high-power soldering iron and fluxes
  • Adding loops or plant stake and antennae made from copper wire or making ready for planting

The course cost of £75 inc VAT per person includes:

  • All materials and glass
  • Use of tools and protective gear
  • Refreshments during the workshop
  • Maximum class size 6 people
  • Your piece to take home
  • Class runs from 2pm or 2.30pm to (approx) 5-30pm at our Northants studio near Towcester
