Glass Applique for Beginners
One day workshop with Jenny Timms

"A very enjoyable day with something to take home!." - Jo, Class attendee

Discover the world of glass applique - a bit like mosaic but with lots of light and beautiful colour thrown in!

On this class you will learn to cut glass and work with a wide range of colours and textures when creating your design.

Chose from creating a glass panel approx. A4 in size or framing a mirror, again approx. A4 in size with the mirror as the focal point of your piece.
Those who are a little more adventurous may like to purchase an inexpensive tea-light holder or vase from us at cost to decorate to your own design.

You can create your own design or be inspired by the artwork on display on the gallery, or if you feel that design isn’t your strong point we offer some starter designs.

On the day
The class starts at 10.30am with health & safety guidlines; please arrive at 10.15am to allow for introductions and a hot drink.
The class ends at around 4.30pm, but don’t worry - we won’t send you home until all your glass is glued into place!

You will then get down to some glass cutting. Once you are confident in cutting glass to shape, you will create your design (if you haven’t already done this prior to coming to the workshop).
Sometimes “less is more”, so our suggestion is to keep your design simple.

You will then chose your coloured glass and get cutting the shapes for your design.
The next stage is gluing! Once all your coloured pieces are glued your work will need to dry for 24hours to ensure all the glass will stay in place.

Towards the end of the day we will discuss the grouting process. As this can’t be done to your piece until after the drying time this will be done at home.
However, we will practise this in the studio. This is the ‘Blue Peter’ moment as we will give you sample pieces that we will have prepared the day before, “Here’s one I made earlier”!

You will take a bag of grout home and a sheet of instructions on the process.
We are only a phone call away should you have any questions; the grouting is very simple and we are sure you won’t have any problems with it.

The course cost of £110 includes:

  • Starter materials including glass, grout, mirror tiles
  • A selection of starter designs (or please bring your own ideas!)
  • Use of tools and apron
  • Refreshments during the day
  • Light lunch from the nearby Cafe
  • Maximum class size 3 people
  • Class runs from 10.30 to 16.30 (approx) at our Northants studio
  • All your work to take home & instructions on grouting your piece
