Renowned encaustic wax artist Phil Madley hosts this fun workshop, blending art and enjoyment as we explore this unusual artform!

Our class begins with Phil demonstrating the Encaustic equipment and then showing you how to create fantastic abstracts, flowers, landscapes and more.

During the course, you will cover the techniques of encaustic wax painting, using an iron, scriber and heated stylus with coloured waxes.

Phil will encourage you to develop your own style after learning the basic techniques with ongoing constructive assessment. He is an enthusiastic tutor who provides a fun and supportive environment in a creative class that is both informative and exciting.

Encaustic art starter kits can be purchased after the class if you'd like to continue your work at home.

The course cost of £75 includes:

  • Starter materials including 4 coloured waxes
  • 10 A5-size encaustic cards
  • Use of tools, encaustic iron, scribe and heated stylus, and apron
  • Refreshments during the day
  • Light lunch
  • Maximum class size 6 people
  • All your work to take home

About Phil Madley

Phil is a professional artist and teacher, specialising in encaustic wax for over 15 years.
He has demonstrated to over seventy art societies throughout England and has taught at schools, colleges and Missenden Abbey.

Phil paints using coloured encaustic wax and various heating implements but principally an iron, earning his nickname “The Iron Man”.
His paintings are bold and bright or soft and sensuous, demanding attention and challenging the viewer on a visual or emotional level to experience more. His work is innovative, exciting and contemporary and his teaching style is lively and informative, and always encouraging.
