This stimulating new course is an inspiring way for all new artists and those with some experience to discover the secrets to creating amazing sculptures in clay!

This course in 8 half-day sesions will guide you through the basics - from observing and understanding the stuctures of the human head, taking measurements and photographs (of a live model!), building on your armature, through to shaping the clay and finishing - all in just 8 weeks!

  • No previous experience is necessary; also suitable for those already sculpting or painting portraits
  • Step by step demonstrations and critiques
  • Live model to work from
  • Small class sizes
  • Clay shaping techniques and tools
  • Widely spaced, sanitized workspaces
  • Materials and refreshments are included
  • This 8-session course costs £300 inc VAT per person - that's just £37.50 per week!

The Course Structure covers:

  • Understanding the structures of the human head
  • Taking measurements and photographs to work from
  • Creating your armature and defining the starting shape for your bust
  • Handling and shaping the clay
  • Using 3d modelling methods to establish the fundamental shape
  • Adding fine details for a good likeness
  • Finishing off and critiquing your's and your peers' work

You are asked to bring:

  • A phone with camera, or a digital camera
  • Old clothes

This class is led by Lesley Passey, an accomplished artist, graphic designer and course creator. After a career designing and developing courses in further education, Lesley is now sharing her skills and introducing new artists to the joys of producing lifelike sculptures and portraits they'll be proud to show off!

Create Amazing Sculptures is structured as an 8-week course of 3 hours per session, from 10am to 1pm on Wednesdays and takes place on the dates below.

About Lesley Passey

Lesley graduated from Bath Academy of Art in Graphic Design and Illustration. She has worked in Design consultancy in London and moved on to a Senior Designer Post at the Open University in Milton Keynes.

She later set up a degree course in graphic design at Milton Keynes College. She later graduated from the University of Northampton with a Masters Degree in print making.

Now fully retired from college life she sculpts busts in clay and works in 2D with oils, pastels and acrylics to produce portraits and landscapes. She often uses digital skills to enhance her finished artwork taking it in an innovative direction.
