Hello from Jenny & Mike!

We've quite a lot to include this month. As ever, we want your feedback on our new designs and your questions about stained glass - generally or specifically about what you've seen on our site or at our shows.

We also want to welcome the many nice folks we met at the Art in Berkhamsted Open Studios event last month, and send details of the latest new-subscriber voucher code - refer to your email for details of how to use your discount.

Events coming up
It's still two months till our Christmas exhibition at Broxbourne so in the meantime, here're details of events before then:

  • 1st November - Sally Basset's Art & Design show, Memorial Hall, Wendover, Bucks
  • 22nd November - Art of Wilstone art show, Wilstone nr Tring, Herts

We're also hoping to tie up the details of another Art in Berkhamsted exhibition for March 2009 in Berkhamsted. News to follow...

As always, the details of all our events, venue maps, open times and links to related websites are on our events page.

We'd also like to tell you about a fund-raising event that we're indirectly connected with on 25th October 7-30pm:
Berkhamsted Lions Club - Annual Fundraising Concert
An evening of Operatic Arias and Songs from the Shows.
Centernary hall, Berkhamsted Collegiate School, Kings Road, Berkhamsted.

At this Lions event, the collaborative piece that we created during our Open Studios exhibition will be auctioned, with the proceeds going to the Berkhamsted Swan Youth Project. This is a valuable local resource and deserves our support!

New pieces
We've added lots of new designs since the last newsletter; most new pieces get a mention on our News page so do take a look from time to time.

We've been experimenting with etching (which gives a subtle extra textural detail), and with pieces incorporating subtle layers and circles. And we've now successfully made a pair of pieces with LED illumination.
These have a row of low-voltage LEDs (safe and very little heat generated) facing rearwards that provide a subtle glow around the piece and gently light the glass.

Check out the pieces below and right; click on the images to see the full product pages.

Finally....
Thanks to all the folks that came to see us at Art in Berkhamsted...
We're looking forward to seeing you again at one of our events, hearing from you, or making something for you!

Best Regards,
Jenny & Mike

P.S. Jenny asks me to say that, as Christmas is fast approaching, if you have an idea for a gift you'd like us to make, please get in touch as soon as poss to be sure we have enough time to complete your commission.

New frame styles
You've told us that frame colour & finish is something you would like a choice in so, we now offer a selection of new frame finishes. Here are some new options we're happy to provide for all new orders:

  1. Ash frame with a wax finish to bring out the grain
  2. Spruce frame with a stain of your choice (pine stain shown)
  3. Spruce frame with a colour wash (sea-green-blue shown)
  4. Spruce frame with a natural light wax finish

And our popular 'rustic-effect' whitewashed style is still available of course. We now achieve this finish with lime-wax which gives a smooth sheen and enhances the grain of the wood very nicely.
