New pieces
We've been making some landscape and seascape pieces this month, two of which are below. Click on the images for full info, as usual. Both are on show at Rowans this month.
A glass fact
As well as encouraging the invention of the copper foil technique that now bears his name, Louis Comfort Tiffany also created a number of glass making techniques, which he called favrile, from the French word fabrile, meaning 'hand-crafted'.
He focused his creative mind on combining glasses with different melting points and colours to make glasses with rich textures and 'defects' within. He is perhaps best known for creating fractured streamer glass. This has threads and wafer-thin shards of glass applied to the still-molten base glass before final rolling.
The first picture is a fractured streamer glass of the type Tiffany would have worked with, used to suggest leaves without painting on the glass. Below is a modern style by Uruboros of America.
